Marcela Casals is a Brooklyn based artist born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in the United States form an early age. Marcela spent many years as an actor/director in the theatre. Her first steps into visual arts were taken when designing and overseeing the construction of the theatre sets, which must communicate place as well as a conceptual theme, for plays she directed.
In 2009 this new voice spoke loudly and she began her explorations through sculpture and ceramics, eventually moving into installation pieces and performance art. In 2016 Marcela began to study Butoh, a mid 20th century dance/movement art which began in Japan. The concepts as well as the techniques of this art brought Marcela to performance art, an expression she continues to explore in her work.
